Regular Expressions (RegEx) can be employed as a technique for supervised learning to define and search for specific patterns inside text. This work devised a method that utilizes regular expressions to convert the reference style of academic papers into several styles, dependent on the specific needs of the target publication or conference. Our research aimed to detect distinctive patterns of reference styles using RegEx and compare them with a dataset including various reference styles. We gathered a diverse range of reference format categories, encompassing seven distinct classes, from various sources such as academic papers, journals, conference proceedings, and books. Our approach involves employing RegEx to convert one referencing format to another based on the user's specific preferences. The proposed model demonstrated an accuracy of 57.26% for book references and 57.56% for journal references. We used the similarity ratio and Levenshtein distance to evaluate the dataset's performance. The model achieved a 97.8% similarity ratio with a Levenshtein distance of 2. Notably, the APA style for journal references yielded the best results. However, the effectiveness of the extraction function varies depending on the reference style. For APA style, the model showed a 99.97% similarity ratio with a Levenshtein distance of 1. Overall, our proposed model outperforms baseline machine learning models in this task. This study introduces an automated program that utilizes regular expressions to modify academic reference formats. This will enhance the efficiency, precision, and adaptability of academic publishing.

The requirement to submit and publish scientific articles in indexed journals has become a part and parcel of life in academia. Although Russian scientists are becoming more visible in the world of science due to their research achievements, they are not sufficiently recognised by a wide audience for several reasons. In this study, we scrutinize the published papers of Russian researchers working in the domains of social sciences and humanities. We aim at investigating the logic and organisation of such publications to see how the articles correspond to the meta-requirements established by the international academia. To achieve the goal we have analysed the logic and organisation of 55 published articles from the Russian scientometric database e-Library. The results emphasise that most Russian researchers do not follow the IMRaD format accepted by the majority of international journals. As a result, such articles have minimal chances to be accepted by international editors. This is not surprising, as unclear structure means lack of readability and, consequently, loss of readers accustomed to a certain article format. This situation causes concerns because Russian scientists do have a lot to say to the world of science.

Knowledge representation of scientific paper data is a problem to be solved,and how to learn the representation of paper nodes in scientific paper heterogeneous network is the core to solve this problem.This paper proposes an unsupervised cluster-level scientific paper heterogeneous graph node representation learning method(UCHL),aiming at obtaining the representation of nodes (authors,institutions,papers,etc.) in the heterogeneous graph of scientific papers.Based on the heterogeneous graph representation,this paper performs link prediction on the entire heterogeneous graph and obtains the relationship between the edges of the nodes,that is,the relationship between paper and paper.Experiments results show that the proposed method achieves excellent performance on multiple evaluation metrics on real scientific paper datasets.

Globally, bio-bibliometric analysis has been carried out among prominent figures in different fields. However, no such analysis was done for researchers from the Institute for Medical Research (IMR), Ministry of Health, Malaysia. This paper seeks to fill the void by examining Dr. Lim Boo Liat, who began his career as a temporary lab technician at IMR and went on to become a prominent zoologist in Malaysia. The search for his publication was carried out through an online search using the Google Scholar, Scopus Web of Science, and ResearchGate databases, in addition to the investigation of the second document in the Institute for Medical Research and Wildlife and National Parks Department of Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) library. The study found that in his 70 years of research experience, he had published more than 350 publications as scientific papers, books, proceedings, and technical reports. However, this study is limited to only 312 research articles written in English and published in scientific journals. These scientific articles consist of three domains: medical ecology, parasitology, and zoology. He published his papers in 69 journals in developed and developing countries. More than half (n=160, 51.3%) of the papers was published in the local journals, while the remaining was published in international journals. He was the first and last author of more than 80% of the papers published. He mainly published his articles in the Malayan Nature Journal (n=46, 15%) and South-East Asia Tropical Medicine and Public Health (n=44, 14%). Most of his papers had fewer than 3 authors. The coefficient of collaboration of the papers was less than 0.5, indicating his expertise in writing papers. Based on the findings, this study shows that the late Dr. Lim Boo Liat had published scientific papers continuously throughout his life and contributed immensely to the body of knowledge, particularly in medical entomology and zoology in tropical countries. This article examines the process of including people deemed to have intellectual disabilities in the dissemination of knowledge through academic journals. It takes a self-ethnographic look at the experience of two researchers co-writing a scientific paper with two individuals deemed to have intellectual disabilities. After presenting current knowledge on research participation with a focus on issues of knowledge and power-sharing with people deemed to have intellectual disabilities, the authors explore the stages of writing, dissemination, and authorship in inclusive research practices.

Scientific papers, as pivotal tools for academic communication, should be articulated with clarity and precision to ensure the effective conveyance of scholarly ideas and to prevent reader confusion. Yet, many such papers conspicuously lack in-depth research, and their core content is often ambiguously presented. This pattern poses a significant impediment to the progressive evolution of science and technology. While numerous researchers have recognized this widespread challenge, a holistic theoretical or methodological solution remains elusive in the academic realm. To bridge this gap, we introduce the INTEGrity vERification (INTEGER) task. This task aids researchers in assessing the integrity of their papers by verifying the clarity of each knowledge unit. To implement this task on text, we propose a multi-task learning model that utilizes the Tucker decomposition and span-level attention mechanism to identify terms and their integrity precisely. More specifically, to provide insights into the INTEGER task and validate the effectiveness of the proposed model, we collect 8076 sentences and construct three new datasets containing various types of terms and descriptions in different domains. Extensive experimental results show that our proposed model has an average performance improvement of 1.1% F1 over the three datasets compared to a series of state-of-the-art baseline methods. Using the metaphor of “unicorn,” we identify the scientific papers and technical patents characterized by the informetric feature of very high citations in the first ten years after publishing, which may provide a new pattern to understand very high impact works in science and technology.

This paper aims to investigate the rhetorical structure of the results and discussion section of scientific papers of the colleges of Life Sciences and Exact, Technological and Multidisciplinary Sciences. In addition to investigating rhetorical relationships, clues (linguistic signals) that signal the relationships are also investigated. The theoretical-methodological model adopted is the Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST), a descriptive theory that studies the organization of texts, characterizing the relations held between its parts. The scientific paper is an essay written by following scientific rules that are the main requirement so that the resulting essay can be justified scientifically. The purpose of the training is to increase the interest, enthusiasm, creative, and innovative ideas from students of class X and XI of SMAN 5 Samarinda to create a scientific paper that is following the rules. Based on the implementation of the training, it can be concluded that it is run well and received support from the school. All participants follow this activity until the end with an attendance rate of 100%. They are enthusiastic to ask, explore, and express their ideas and opinions. Then, in the future, it is expected that there will be further activities involving the teachers to optimization the role of assistants to create their student’s scientific papers.

There is a growing number of scientific papers reporting on case studies and action research published each year. Consequently, evaluating the quality of pilling up research reports is becoming increasingly challenging. Several approaches for evaluation of quality of the scientific outputs exist however they appear to be fairly time-consuming and/or adapted for other research designs. In this paper, we propose a reasonably light-weight structure-based approach for evaluating case study and action research reports (SAE-CSAR) based on eight key parts of a real-world research report: research question, case description, data collection, data analysis, ethical considerations, results, discussion and limitations. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed approach, we conducted a systematic literature survey of papers reporting on real-world cybersecurity research. A total of N = 102 research papers were evaluated. Results suggest that SAE-CSAR is useful and relatively efficient, and may offer a thought-provoking insight into the studied field. Although there is a positive trend for the inclusion of data collection, data analysis and research questions in papers, there is still room for improvement suggesting that the field of real-world cybersecurity research did not mature yet. The presence of a discussion in a paper appears to affect most its citation count. However, it seems that it is not uniformly accepted what a discussion should include. This paper explores this and other issues related to paper structure and provides guidance on how to improve the quality of research reports.

A scientific paper containing innovative work in the learning process is needed by teachers as requirement in upgrading their rank in their professional development, including senior high school/equivalent teachers in Bintan Regency. However, generally they get difficulties in making scientific work was caused difficulty in finding relevant reference sources relate to research topic, limited knowledge in information technology and avoid plagiarism check. The purpose of this activity is to guide high school/equivalent teachers in Bintan regency in order to capable to make correct scientific papers good free from plagiarism with the help of Mendeley reference management. Implementation of activities in the form of workshop or training with lecture methods, discussions, question and answer, and projects. The activity was carried out for two days in the form of workshop and two days in the form of independent assignments. This community service activity was considered successful since 80% participants increasing their knowledge of Mendeley's reference management and being able to apply the knowledge in writing free plagiarizm scientific paper.

Aim:Publication rate of congress abstracts has gained attention in the recent literature. Our aim was to assess publication rate and the reasons behind publication of abstracts presented at North American Spine Society (NASS) 2009-2012 annual scientific meetings.Methods:We evaluated the abstracts presented at the NASS 2009- 2012 annual scientific meetings. We searched abstract titles and author names through the PubMed/MEDLINE and Google Scholar. Author specialty, origin of the abstract, journal name, time to publication (years) and content change were looked for.Results:The publication rate of the abstracts presented at NASS 2009- 2012 was 48%. The 2011 congress was the most successful one at reaching publication compared to other three years. Oral presentation abstracts were more likely to be published than poster abstracts, except the year 2011. Orthopedic surgery was the leading specialty in the number of presented abstracts (70%), while neurosurgery was the most successful specialty in seeing publication of the presented abstracts (58%).Conclusion:The publication rate of presented abstracts of NASS has increased compared to the previous years. Further research is needed to understand the reasons for some presented abstracts that could not have been published in scientific journals.

Using the metaphor of "unicorn," we identify the scientific papers and technical patents characterized by the informetric feature of very high citations in the first ten years after publishing, which may provide a new pattern to understand very high impact works in science and technology. When we set CT as the total citations of papers or patents in the first ten years after publication, with CT≥ 5,000 for scientific "unicorn" and CT≥ 500 for technical "unicorn," we have an absolute standard for identifying scientific and technical "unicorn" publications. We identify 165 scientific "unicorns" in 14,301,875 WoS papers and 224 technical "unicorns" in 13,728,950 DII patents during 2001–2012. About 50% of "unicorns" belong to biomedicine, in which selected cases are individually discussed. The rare "unicorns" increase following linear model, the fitting data show 95% confidence with the RMSE of scientific "unicorn" is 0.2127 while the RMSE of technical "unicorn" is 0.0923. A "unicorn" is a pure quantitative consideration without concerning its quality, and "potential unicorns" as CT≤5,000 for papers and CT≤500 for patents are left in future studies. Since the megajournal concept was established as a model of a sustainable scientific open access only journal, the scientific public has been polarized. On the one hand, these journals are seen as the future of academic publishing, enabling faster availability of research results, and thus easier communication between researchers, while on the other hand, for a number of authors, this new and non-traditional way of publishing scientific achievements is debatable. In addition to obvious criticism and public controversy, megajournals have been described as a dumping ground for works of untested quality, with good earnings for their publishers, which automatically characterizes them as predatory. Besides the basic characteristics, the paper gives an overview of five influential megajournals, including their bibliometric indicators. The increase in the number of published papers and impact factors in the initial years of publication, indicates that megajournals have been recognized and accepted as a business model. In the last few years, during the analysis of various metrics of published megajournals, a certain stagnation has been noticed, which indicates the hyperproduction of new works in an increasing number of titles. This Community Service collaborates with two partners, which are teachers who are member of MGMP Office Administration and teachers in SMKN 1 Jombang. The aim of this Community Service is to train teachers to write scientific papers well, and publish their papers as well. These activities conducted in training activity, lecturing, question and answer, discuss and practice how to write scientific papers well. The result of these activities are 1) the implementation of this scientific writing training for vocational high school teachers is consistent to the steps that planned before, with two partners, which are teachers who are member of MGMP Office Administration and teachers in SMKN 1 Jombang, 2) the overall response from the participants of this scientific writing trainingare very satisfied, mainly because of the aspects of activities, speakers aspects, and general aspects.

Writing is a compulsory capability for students. However, writing is a skill that is difficult to acquire. One of the weakness that affect the writing skill is reading skill. Reading skill influences writing skill, both skills have a connection that is equivalent one another. Not only reading, writing skill will get better if students write diligently. One of it is writing scientific paper. Conditioning writing using the rules of writing scientific paper will make the difficulties slowly disappear. This research is done by conditioning the students that made scientific paper with being organized so it become effective. The purpose of the research is to evaluate the effectiveness of a small act and real in order to increase the reliability of students’ scientific paper writing skill. The research is concluded in 6 months with 385 students. The result of the research is that organizing scientific paper using word processor application is considered effective with 98.7 percent respondents said that the given treatment can make the process of writing scientific paper effective. Namun, menulis merupakan keterampilan yang sulit dikuasai. Salah satu faktor lemahnya keterampilan menulis adalah keterampilan membaca. Keterampilan membaca memang memengaruhi keterampilan menulis, keduanya keterampilan tersebut mempunyai kaitan yang berbanding lurus. Tidak hanya membaca, kemampuan menulis pun akan membaik jika rajin menulis. Salah satunya adalah menulis karya ilmiah. Pembiasaan menulis dengan kaidah penulisan karya ilmiah akan membuat kesulitan itu semakin hilang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan membiasakan mahasiswa membuat karya tulis dengan terorganisasi sehingga menjadi efektif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menilai keefektifan sebuah tidakan kecil dan nyata guna meningkatkan keandalan menulis karya ilmiah mahasiswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam waktu 6 (enam) bulan dengan 385 mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian ini adalah mengorganisasikan karya ilmiah dengan aplikasi pengolah kata dinilai efektif dengan raihan 98,7% responden menyatakan bahwa perilaku yang diberikan dapat mengefektifkan proses menulis karya ilmiah. Social media platforms have had an enormous impact on the dissemination of scientific work and have fared well in covering scientific papers. However, little is known about the general dissemination process from academia to social media and how various factors affect the dissemination of scientific papers at different stages. In this paper, we proposed a two-staged dissemination process to profile the diffusion of scientific papers from academia to social media. A two-step simultaneous equation modeling–artificial neural network approach was adopted to predict the retweet scale of scientific papers on Twitter by combining source-related and content-related factors. The analysis in the field of oncology suggests that the artificial neural network algorithm (ANN) with the input units generated from the simultaneous equation model (3SLS) can predict the retweet scale of scientific papers on Twitter with an accuracy of 78.05%. According to the normalized importance obtained from the ANN, we found that most factors related to the information source play critical roles in promoting the dissemination of scientific papers. The number of first-generation tweets has the most remarkable impact on subsequent dissemination. As for the content-related predictors, tweets attached with more URLs can provide richer information for audiences, thereby increasing the retweet scale of scientific papers. Besides, the influence of research topics on dissemination varies with different audiences. The findings of this study contribute to the literature on the dissemination of scientific papers beyond academia and provide practical implications for scholarly communication. BACKGROUND: Development of tissue engineering is of great social and economic significance. Understanding the basic research strength of China in the main subfields of tissue engineering can provide reference for the optimization of resources allocation and for the formulation of corresponding development strategies. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the basic research strength of China in the main subfields of tissue engineering. METHODS: PubMed was searched for basic research and top basic research articles in the subfields of tissue engineering (including bone and cartilage, nerve, blood vessel, liver, skin, heart, and eye tissue engineering) in the world, the United States and China. By comparing with the global average and American, Chinese basic research strength in the main subfields of tissue engineering was evaluated with indicators including the number of papers, the growth rate of papers, and the number and proportion of top papers. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The number of basic research papers pubIished by Chinese institutions in the subfields of bone and cartilage tissue engineering, nerve tissue engineering, vessel tissue engineering, liver tissue engineering, skin tissue engineering, cardiac tissue engineering and eye tissue engineering was 4 487, 3 551, 2 869, 1 328, 1 185, 1 088 and 689, respectively, accounting for 10%-15% of worldwide papers in corresponding subfields. The amount of papers published by Chinese institutions was nearly half of that published by institutions of the United States for the first five subfields, but only 32.1% and 37.8% of that published by institutions of the United States for the latter two subfields. (2) The annual growth rate of papers published by Chinese institutions was 19.3%, 19.5%, 18.2%, 14.6%, 21.8%, 19.6% and 19.6%, respectively, for the above seven subfrelds, all of which were obviously higher than that of the global average and the United States. (3) The number of top papers published by Chinese institutions was 36, 31, 33, 24, 15, 24 and 12, and the proportion of top papers published by Chinese institutions was 0.8%, 0.9%, 1.2%, 1.8%, 1.3%, 2.2% and 1.7%, respectively, all of which were obviously lower than that of the global average and the United States. (4) China has published relatively more papers on bone and cartilage tissue engineering, nerve tissue engineering and vessel tissue engineering, and relatively less papers on cardiac tissue engineering and eye tissue engineering. The amount of papers published by Chinese institutions has been growing rapidly in each of the seven main subfields of tissue engineering, with the speed of growing being obviously higher than that of the global average and the United States. China has published a certain amount of top papers in each of the seven subfields, while the proportion of top papers for China is obviously lower than that of the global average and the United States. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic is a case that can be used as a biochemistry learning resource in relation to the topic of viruses. Learning to use cases will be effective if students are assigned to produce reports, articles, or other scientific papers. Self‐assessment can be used to assess the competencies that have been learnt in the writing process. This study aims to analyze the scientific papers and self‐assessment of students using the COVID‐19 pandemic case. It includes qualitative research with scientific paper and self‐assessment questionnaire analyses. The research sample was chemistry education study program students (N = 57) following biochemistry course, out of a population of 87 students. The results show that the students have a good understanding of explaining COVID‐19. Self‐assessment analysis shows that 80% of the students responded positively to eight statements; those who gave positive responses to each questionnaire statement were able to produce scientific papers. BACKGROUND: The development of tissue engineering is of great social and economic significance. Understanding the current status of basic research in this field can provide reference for developing corresponding development strategies. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate China's basic research current status in the field of tissue engineering. METHODS: A computer-based online search of Pubmed was performed to retrieve basic research papers and top papers in the field of tissue engineering using search terms MESH terms AND free-text word. In the context of global background, China’s ability of basic research in the field of tissue engineering was analyzed based on the number of papers, the growth of the number of papers, the number and proportion of top papers. In addition, the number of papers was used to identify the global research hotspots in the field of tissue engineering. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The top five countries in the field of tissue engineering were the United States, China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom. The total number of papers in this field published by Chinese scholars reached 17,031, second only to the United States. The compound annual growth rate of the number of papers was 19.9%, and the number of top papers was 195, ranking first and last among the top five countries, respectively. Eight Chinese institutions ranked top 30 in the number of papers in this field, with an average growth rate of 21.2%, far higher than that of all the top 30 institutions in the world (21.2% vs. 14.2, P < 0.001). However, Chinese institutions produced fewer top papers as compared to other top institutions, with the proportion of top papers significantly lower than that of the average level of the top 30 institutions (2.0% vs. 5.2%; P=0.002). There were five Chinese researchers whose total publications entered top 25 of the world. China's research in tissue engineering focuses on the areas of bone and cartilage, nerves, liver, skin, heart and eye tissue engineering, which is consistent with the global status. China's basic research in the field of tissue engineering ranks second in the world and expands rapidly in recent years. A number of academic institutions and individuals with great achievements have emerged. However, China's research quality in this field is relatively low as compared to other top institutions. It is suggested to guide researchers to pay more attention to the quality and transformation of research output, and to support the development of basic subjects such as material science to lay a good foundation for the development of tissue engineering in China. It is aimed at reflecting on communication as essential to the progress of science, its significance to make scientific research carried out at higher education institutions visible, and presenting the results of designing and running a workshop focused on science communication training for professors. OBJECTIVE: Scientific research is an essential necessity for the prevention and control of COVID-19. Accelerated paper-sharing makes it possible to explore the responses of scientific communities of different countries and their research focus. This is achieved by examining relevant publications during the early stage of the pandemic. This paper explores a timely research assessment on COVID-19 among China, USA, and EU. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Papers indexed in PubMed and published from December 30, 2019, to March 11, 2020, were selected. Papers from China, USA, and EU were assessed by calculating the significance of items in the co-occurrence exported from VOSviewer. RESULTS: The results showed that Chinese studies focus more on clinical manifestations, while USA and EU focus on experimental research. Furthermore, US research is more geared toward detection techniques and mathematical models, China focuses more on monitoring the epidemic situation, and EU engages in both. CONCLUSIONS: This paper argues that the above distinctions are caused by differences in the stages of epidemic development, researchers' experience bases for formulating measures, traditions within the different medical cultures, and the distinction between "information" and "knowledge". Health care professionals are bound by the duty of providing the best possible care to their clients. To abide by this, one needs to constantly learn and imbibe the advances in the field. Evidence-based practise should be built on the firm foundation of evidence synthesis. A professional may be a clinician, an academician, or a researcher per se, but contribution to the evolution of their profession is an indispensable responsibility. Conducting research is a scientific process which when combines with the art of writing the manuscript influences innumerable lives in more than one positive way. Publication of findings not only helps one in professional development but also helps others globally in upgrading their services to benefit humankind. The process of drafting and publishing a manuscript needs initial guidance that appears to be missing as a major part in the health science curriculum. In this article, we aim to outline the practical points to facilitate the process of writing a manuscript for publication. This article includes the information on types of accepted articles, the pattern of manuscripts, gold standard guidelines, tips to draft each section of the manuscript (including cover letter), and how to choose a journal for publication, which would help to reduce the time required to prepare a draft and to increase the probability of acceptance of the manuscript for publication.
